We might not all agree on our favorite Presidents. But here’s something we can all get behind:

Now that’s vintage: The world’s oldest pants date back to the thirteenth century B.C. Discovered in a Chinese cemetery in June 2014, these 3,000-year-old wool trousers had straight legs and a wide crotch, and were likely made for horseback riding. 

Pants and prejudice: In eighteenth- and nineteenth-century England, form-fitting trousers were forbidden in some circles — and sometimes referred to as “inexpressibles” because they left nothing to the imagination. 

Equality and pantsuits for all: In 1972, Pat Nixon was the first First Lady to wear pants in public. And incredibly, women were not allowed to wear pants on the floor of the U.S. Senate until 1993. 

If you’re looking to make your own contribution to pant-history with a new pair of inexpressibles, we’ve got plenty of options for women and men from some of our favorite brands:
