Our Christmas Cookie Traditions

Let's be honest, the best thing about the holidays are the cookies. Throughout the rest of the year, we actually don't like the same type of cookies (Clark prefers chocolate chip and Andrew a PLAIN Oatmeal).

This month though, we both LOVE our Mom's sugar cookies.  Clark's mom makes a shortbread style, that gets rolled in sugar (literally covered!) and Andrew's mom makes frosted cut-outs that compliment every meal (and all snacks too).

We're including their recipes here (with pics!).  Send us your pics and recipes too, we'd love to be a part of your traditions.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season,

Clark & Andrew (Hamilton & Adams)

Christmas Rounds

  • 1lb margarine
  • 1C sugar
  • 4C sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. Almond extract
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together.   Roll in refrigerator rolls, about 4, and then roll in red or green sugar crystals.  Cool in refrigerator for 1-2 hours.  Remove and slice to desired thickness.  Bake at 350 degrees, watching closely as to not burn.

Frosted Cut Outs:

Ingredients:

  • 1C shortening
  • 2C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1T. Milk
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 4C flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder

Cream together the shortening, sugar, eggs milk and vanilla. Combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then slowly combine. Chill dough for 1 hour.  Roll out to desired thickness, cut our with your favorite shapes and bakes at 350 degrees until lightly browned.  Frost and decorate to the best of your abilities!
