A Very Curious Road Trip

We love road trips. There’s nothing better than piling in a car, setting off in one direction, and just seeing where the road takes us. We believe that cultivating curiosity is one of the keys to happiness—and for us, a good road trip is a surefire way to tap into our shared love of a great adventure.

Years ago, before we opened the store, we had a favorite weekend ritual: we’d pick a nearby town we’d never visited. Then we’d drive there, grab lunch, and explore the area. Almost every time, we’d stumble upon something we didn’t expect—and that was usually the most memorable part of the trip. (That’s the trouble with plans: they sometimes distract us from the thrill of discovery.)

This weekend, we’re embarking on one of our most epic road trips yet. For those of you who may not know, Clark has spent the last few months working remotely in Palm Springs, and Andrew has been holding down the fort in Kingston. But now, with both of us vaccinated and Spring at its height, we’re taking a full week to drive together from California to New York.

True to form, we don’t have many specific plans, but we do have a rough itinerary:

  • Saturday, May 1. Palm Springs to Flagstaff, Arizona (with a detour to Grand Canyon National Park).
  • Sunday, May 2. Flagstaff to Santa Fe.
  • Monday, May 3. Santa Fe to Oklahoma City.
  • Tuesday, May 4. Oklahoma City to Bentonville, Arkansas (with a stop at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art).
  • Wednesday, May 5. Bentonville to Nashville.
  • Thursday, May 6. Spending time with Andrew’s sister in Nashville.
  • Friday, May 7. Nashville to Mill Run, Pennsylvania (and our first-ever visit to Fallingwater).
  • Saturday, May 8. Mill Run to Stone Ridge, New York.

We’d love for you to follow along on Instagram, send us recommendations for things to see, and let us know about the best places to eat. We’ll also have plenty of time to catch up on some of our favorite podcasts: How I Built This, Spectacular Failures, Business Wars, and Hello Seven. (If you have any podcast recommendations, we’d love to hear those too.)

While we’re on the road, we hope you’ll check out our Mother’s Day collection here at the store. You’ll find something for every kind of Mom:

Here’s to the journey ahead—and to the Moms who helped us get there.
